After school the Riverside Drive playground is supervised from 2:25PM-6:00PM. The Youth Services program follows LAUSD rules and children must follow the direction of the Playground Supervisor(s). Please be on time to pick up your child. Many times, children are left beyond the supervision time. After 10 minutes, the Yard Director is authorized to call the LAPD to take your child into their care.

Behavior Plan

All students deserve a safe learning environment inside and outside of the classroom. The staff has been working on a school-wide Behavior Plan to ensure an orderly school. Students who continually disturb others in the classroom, bully or tease others or physically or verbally abuse another student WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT RIVERSIDE DRIVE. There will be a series of consequences involving parents.

We have such great hard-working, creative students who ALL deserve to soar with their education in a safe place!

Traffic Safety

Parents of Riverside students are advised that adults as well as students will be ticketed for violations such as speeding vehicles, double parking, jay walking, not wearing a bicycle helmet while riding a bicycle and under the age of eighteen, and more. Los Angeles School Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Sheriff Department, and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation have combined resources to make the traffic zones around schools safer for the students. Laws pertaining to moving vehicles, bicycle riders, pedestrians, skaters, riders of motorized and ped-powered scooter, skateboarders, parked vehicles, and sidewalk food vendors will be enforced. Please obey the law. If you would like a list of the laws most commonly violated around schools, please contact our school principal.

Kiss & Ride Student Drop Off Program

    The Riverside Drive Elementary
Kiss & Ride Student Drop Off Program

Thanks to all the parents who are using Kiss & Ride!
Thanks to all the parents who volunteer!
    and...
Thanks to all the parents who observe traffic safety
    around the school!

We want to keep this program going but we need more volunteers! Please consider helping us out. It's only a short commitment of your time from 7:40 to 8:05 in the morning, and it brings smiles and peace of mind to everyone involved. Please contact us at comments@riversidedrivepta.org

Sign up to volunteer for once a week, once a month, or every day! We appreciate any time you can give.

Remember, if you do not wish to use the Kiss & Ride, please do not enter the valet line on the east side of Ethel Avenue. We appreciate your cooperation. The Kiss & Ride should free up more parking and relieve traffic congestion for those of you who walk your children into school.

Don't forget these helpful tips for safety in the Kiss & Ride line, and parking around the school…

      * Do not park in the Kiss & Ride lines.

      * Do not honk your horn. Signs are posted and you may risk a big fat ticket!

      * Do not make U-turns! Signs are posted and you may risk a big fat ticket!

      * Keep moving in the line. Do not let your children out UNTIL the attendant has come to open your vehicle door.

      * Once your children have exited your vehicle, stay in the line until the car in front of you moves out of the line. Do not move out of the line with vehicles still in front of yours.

      * Treat the volunteers with kindness and courtesy. They are giving up their valuable time to help keep our children safe and make mornings easier for everyone!

Skateboards Afterschool - Not!

LAUSD has added a new force to the School Police (213) 625-6631) to monitor schools after hours and on the weekends, due to the continual problem of skateboarders on campuses. Every Monday morning our Plant Manager, has to move many benches and tables back to the Lunch Area because skateboarders have moved them to any area with stairs. This takes away time from to do other needed projects around school, but the benches are in a horrendous state. It costs $140 just to repair one bench!

If School Police finds a skateboarder on campus after hours, the skateboard will be confiscated, the child fined and the parent and child will have to go to Court! Please keep your children off the grounds after hours and tell your neighbors too! If you see skateboarders on campus, please call the School Police ASAP. A Riverside parent recently observed a mom pull up in front of the school early one evening to drop her child with his skateboard off at the campus! The police were called and found at least a dozen skateboarders on campus, riding all over the grass in the Literacy Garden. They were cited and escorted off campus. These were not Riverside students.

Pets on Campus

It is LAUSD policy that no pets may be brought onto the campus. This is for the safety and protection of every child. Please remember that some children may be allergic to pets and exposure to them could present health problems for them. All animals (even those being studied in Science programs) must be approved through the office prior to being brought to the classroom. The only exceptions are service animals.
