Here at Riverside, we're (almost) as proud of our parents as we are of our Kids! Through the volunteer efforts of some very active and generous Parents, our School just keeps getting better and better. Parents For Riverside Drive is responsible for bringing some of the most dramatic changes to Riverside. Stay in touch with the activities of these two volunteer groups... and join in whenever you can.
School Governance
All of the following councils and committees hold an election during the school year. It is your responsibility to have a voice at all elections. For more information regarding elections, please visit the school website periodically and watch for flyers in your child's backpack.
SBM (School Based Management)
The School Based Management Council is composed of elected staff members and parents who participate in decision making processes to help determine school guidelines and policy in specific areas. This Council is an intregal part of school-based management and the School Improvement Program as established under state guidelines. School events, budgetary considerations, district requirements, state educational framework, disciplinary procedures and other pertinent topics are discussed. In the past this council was known as the Local Leadership Council.
ELAC (English Learner Advisory Council)
This committee meets to discuss educational programs for our bilingual students. It advises School Staff on the ELD development programs and services to ELL students. It also participates in the development of a school plan, and works with the school's bilingual coordinator on school matters.
SSC (School Site Council)
School Site Council is composed of elected staff members and parents who participate in decision making processes to help determine school guidelines and policy in specific areas. Some of their responsibility includes reviewing student achievement data, developing the comprehensive School Plan which includes Single School Plan, ongoing review of program effectiveness, and certain budget expenditures. Some staff development is also discussed.
